LifeLock and Identity Theft Prevention Options

By • Dec 24th, 2007 • Category: Identity Theft, Identity Theft Protection, LifeLock, lifelock reviews

There are a number of ways and a number of options you can choose from to prevent identity theft. In this case, you can either choose to combat identity theft alone or hire a company to help you. Still unsure about which options will work best for you? Here’s an overview to help you decide.

You can choose to combat identity theft alone or you can hire a credit protection company.  Did you know that some of the services offered by companies for a fee, you can actually do on your own and for free? Some of these aforementioned services include setting and maintaining fraud alerts with the major credit bureaus, requesting that your name be removed from pre-approved credit card mailing lists and junk mail lists, as well as ordering annual credit reports from the three major credit bureaus.

However, dealing with these credit bureaus and doing the above mentioned certainly takes a whole lot of time and effort. As with placing a fraud alert on your account, you will have to remember to renew it every 90 days. It is definitely more convenient and faster if you had someone to help you. Usually if you subscribe to an identity theft company, this service is done for you automatically and continuously.

If you are a busy person or want something more hassle-free, you can hire companies to help you like credit monitoring or recovery services as well as identity theft protection companies. However, credit monitoring and recovery services help you fix a problem after it has occurred. LifeLock, on the other hand prevent the crime from happening in the first place. In the case of identity theft where recovery is a painstaking and complicated process, prevention is definitely better than cure.

Out of all the identity theft protection companies out there, LifeLock is probably the provider that most often comes to mind. LifeLock offers the following: setting up fraud alerts, credit monitoring, removal from junk mail or pre-approved credit card lists, as well as full service resolution and repair if ever you fall victim to identity theft. Moreover, LifeLock is so confident about their system that they offer a $1 million dollar service guarantee against any losses resulting from identity theft that you may incur while you are subscribed to their service.

Did you know that LifeLock is the only company in the identity theft protection arena to be certified ISO 27001, the highest security standard for data handling and processing provided by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)? Moreover, LifeLock’s system has even earned a certificate from Hackersafe, a company that ensures corporate systems.

With LifeLock, confidentiality and quality service is assured as LifeLock participates in other business security services like background checks for employees, random drug testing, and surveillance and alarm systems. Note that the people behind LifeLock involve prominent executives such as the former vice-chairman of Bank of America, former Global Chief Technology Officer at VISA and former CEO of Internet America.

All this sounds impressive, right? There’s definitely no question that LifeLock is one of the best options to consider when it comes to identity theft protection. All in all though, no matter which option you decide to go for, taking steps to protect yourself against identity theft is always a smart decision.

  1. I heard Lifelock on the radio from my car 2 days ago, the commercial was so good that i needed to get a pen to actually write down the number and the website. I surely will be enrolling soon. Are you guys the best protection for ID theft available? I want only the best…I have recently just retired and cannot afford to get my ID stolen. I heard about Identity theft from Oprah show before, yes I think it’s on Oprah.

  2. Well, another reason why i picked Lifelock over the other protection services is that they offer their services to children. I have a 12 year old and a 10 year old at home and they like surfing the nternet a lot, especially my daughter (12 years old). Tami

  3. Thanks, Lifelock is continuously working to improve their service. In fact, they just added a new service called WalletLock. This wallet assistance program is being offered to all LifeLock clients at no additional cost to them. With this service existing Lifelock clients will be provided a Lifelock specialist in case their wallet is stolen or lost.

  4. Remember your identity can be stolen from ATMs at retails stores, where some employees use skimming devices to record information off the magnetic stripe. Make sure you keep a vigilant eye on your card as you hand it over to be‘ swiped’. The employee should keep your card visible at all times. If not, ask them to stop the transaction immediately and if you suspect they may have committed an identity theft, cancel you card at once.
